This is a fun, recreational league that is a great fit for those who may want a different style of doubles play outside of the typical USTA format.
- Players will play a total of 24 games each week.
- Each player will play 8 games with each of the 3 people on their assigned court.
- Players are assigned a court on the first day of play based on their individual rating. Top rated players 1-4 are assigned to Court 1; players 5-8 are assigned to Court 2; etc.
- After the first day of play, court movement is determined by a player’s individual performance.
- Depending on the score for the day, a player may move up one court, down one court, or stay on her current court for the following week.
- At the end of the season, the player with the most cumulative games won (no matter what court they end on) is pronounced the season winner!
A fun, social evening league using red balls and short courts—perfect for players of all levels looking for fast rallies and team spirit. Light-hearted competition, serious fun!
- Teams (mixed or gendered) compete in a round robin format each week.
- Each match will be 2 out of 3 – 4 game sets.
- Teams will play 2-3 opponents each night.
- End-of-season champs are crowned based on win/loss records and total cumulative points.

Your personal playbook for fun, fitness, and rewards!
Each time you hit the court, use your passport to track your match nights, log points, and celebrate your progress.
Whether you’re rallying in the morning or teaming up at night, your passport keeps the journey playful, social, and rewarding—just the way Red Ball was meant to be.
How It Works
Players use Red Balls and a 23” racquet.
Red Ball is played on a tennis court using service box and singles sideline.
Players stand on opposite sides of the net to hit the ball.
Spin racquet. Winner of spin selects to serve or receive.
The server stands behind the service line, and serves the ball underhanded, diagonally across the court into the service box.
The server has two attempts to make a good serve.
A point is awarded when a player fails to return the ball within the court.
- Game:
- Points count 1, 2, 3, 4.
- A game is won by accumulating 4 points.
- Set:
- First to 4 games wins the set.
- A set is won by winning 4 games or by winning the first set after a tie-break (5-point).
- Set Tiebreakers:
- If the set score is tied at 3-3, a 5-point tiebreaker is played.
- The first player/team to win 5 points wins the tiebreaker.
- Players serve 2 points each in the tiebreaker, alternating after each serve.
- If the tiebreaker reaches 4-4, the next point is a sudden death point. (e.g. the last server would get 3 serves)
- Match:
- A match is won by winning two out of three sets.
- If each team wins a set, a 10-point match tie-break is played.
- Match Tie-break:
- The first player/team to win 10 points with a 2-point lead wins the match tiebreaker.
- The ball must bounce once in the designated service box for the receiver to return play.
- Players must wait for the ball to come over the net before hitting it. Players are not allowed to reach over the net line to hit the ball.
- After the serve, the players exchange shots, hitting the ball back and forth over the net.
- The ball can bounce once on each side of the court, or a player can hit a volley.
- Players/Teams switch ends after every 2 games in a set.
- Players/Teams switch ends after every 4 points in the tiebreaker.
- There is a “no-let” rule. Serves that touch the net and land in the service box are considered in play.
- In doubles, either player on the receiving team can return the serve if it touches the net and lands in.
