"Ad-In" Tennis for Special Populations

CORTA has a mission to provide a meaningful tennis experience to children with intellectual disabilities and physical handicaps.

CORTA's "Ad-In" tennis program offers an introduction to tennis as well as training and competition to children with intellectual difficulties and physical handicaps.  We have a purpose of introducing tennis to all people as a means of healthy recreation and a life long sport.  Our intentions are to "add in" our special populations athletes to our tennis community.  Tennis can build confidence and self esteem and teach good sportsmanship.  These benefits are even more important to the special populations.  "Ad-In" signifies winning and we aspire to use tennis to make all these players winners!

This program will be lead by trained and qualified coaches.  Volunteers that have a passion for serving others and a love of the game of tennis will be involved in this program.

PROGRAMS:

"AD-IN" SKILLS CLINIC-  This program is the first program for the new player.  We will use modified equipment to teach eye-hand coordination, footwork, mobility, and basic skills in tennis.  Athletes will receive much positive encouragement and nurturing to feel the rewards of learning the sport of tennis

"AD-IN" TRAINING PROGRAM - This program is for athletes who aspire to train and play in the Special Olympics.  Drills will improve tennis fundamentals and basic strokes, as well as rules and etiquette.  Competition will be taught using unified partners to ready these athletes for Special Olympics held in Atlanta in May 2010.

*NOTE* In May, CORTA and Kendrick High School prepared 12 athletes to compete in the Olympic Games in Atlanta.

"AD-IN" TENNISWORKS IN THE SCHOOLS- CORTA will come to your school and work with special education students grades K-12.  Programs will be conducted in school gyms using modified equipment.  This is usually six sessions (30-45 minutes).  All students receive a t-shirt and an invitation to Cooper Creek Tennis Center for a fieldtrip to experience a real tennis court.

"AD-IN" TENNIS VOLUNTEERS - We need volunteers as on court or school helpers.  If you would enjoy the experience of making a huge difference in the lives of these special athletes while enriching your own life, please contact us @ 706-317-4136 or email deby@corta.org.  Tennis teams, school groups, families, and individuals are all encouraged to get involved.  Your knowledge or skill level is a non-issue.  Your involvement and desire to give of yourself to help us "add in" these special athletes is far more valuable.

"AD-IN" FRIDAY NIGHT ROUND ROBIN MIXER - This will be a round robin tennis mixer for all special pops tennis players.  We will have unified doubles and skills competition.  The format will be the same as the special olympic games.  Play will be followed by a pizza party and music!  All players receive a player bag, t-shirt and awards!
